Meeting the Challenge
29 June 2010
Three senior members of Clarksons’ Dry Cargo Division came close to winning the Three Peaks Challenge at the weekend (19/20 June) and smashed a notable record in the process. The three, all in their early 40s, are the head of the Division, Guy Campbell, the head of the Division in Singapore, Ken Michie, and a member of the Division’s operations team, Rob Poskitt. They were among 38 teams of three from the shipping and related industries taking part in the annual event. On Saturday, they ran up and down Ben Nevis in 3hr 11min. Starting at 1am on Sunday, they climbed Helvellyn in 1hr 47min. Unfortunately, on the way down Guy pulled up with a knee injury and on medical advice missed the run up Snowdon later in the day, which Ken and Rob completed in 2hr – a full 30 minutes quicker than the record for the event The team had to settle for second place overall as a result, but raised £5,400 in sponsorship for the Society.
